Category Purchasing Manager – M&E (Meeting & Event) and Travel

Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead procurement for M&E (Meeting & Event) and Travel categories, covering services such as event agency, venue, catering, meeting material production, exhibition, meeting travel agency, TMC (Travel Management Company), air/rail, hotel and related services. Apply category management to deliver value for money, ensure compliance, and support business needs across China.

  • Business Partnering
    • Align procurement strategies with business goals
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver innovative projects.
    • Provide solutions to complicated issues
    • Drive cost optimization and efficiency initiatives
    • Provide market insights and support decision-making
  • Category Strategy & Strategic Sourcing
    • Prepare thorough and accurate spend analysis to identify key areas for improvement.
    • Ensure the highest level of Governance is achieved in all procurement processes.
    • Build and implement category strategies for M&E and Travel, including segmentation, sourcing levers, supplier portfolio, and localization vs. regional/global alignment.
    • Lead end-to-end sourcing (RFx, bid evaluation, negotiation) and implement contracts
    • Optimize supplier base to support long term business needs.
  • Vendor Management:
    • Develop vendor management Strategy to monitor vendors’ performance to ensure cost effective and efficient supply.
    • Set and run governance: QBRs, scorecards, performance reviews, corrective actions.
    • Monitor service quality, on-time delivery, safety, brand compliance, data accuracy (PNR, traveler profile, CO2 reporting).
    • Drive continuous improvement and innovation
    • Manage supplier risk: financial, capacity, EHS, data privacy etc.
  • Policy, Compliance & Governance:
    • Ensure procurement processes comply with compliance policies and global purchasing requirements.
    • Partner with cross functions to manage risks and optimize category management rules.
  • Communication & Change Management:
    • Communicate with senior leaders and other stakeholders who have a need to know. Ensure that when issues arise, both the issue and the resolution are communicated in a timely manner.
  •  Analytics and Purchasing Metrics
    • Deliver accurate spend analysis, savings tracking, rate benchmarking, utilization and adoption metrics.
    • Track and report savings, cost avoidance, compliance rate, preferred supplier utilization, contract coverage, SLA performance, and audit outcomes per requirements.

Performance Indicators:

  • Savings & Efficiency: Achieved savings, cost avoidance etc.
  • Compliance & Governance: Policy adherence rates, audit findings, exception management outcomes.
  • Service & Quality: Internal stakeholder satisfaction, SLA/KPI attainment, on-time delivery, data accuracy.
  • Risk & Sustainability: Risk mitigation actions, incident rate, ESG metrics (sustainability initiatives, sustainable suppliers’ adoption).
  • Innovation & Adoption: Innovation solution/ initiatives; process optimization

Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Skills & Tools:
    • Category management, strategic sourcing, contract negotiation, rate benchmarking.
    • Strong M&E category knowledge (Meeting agency, production/AV, venue etc.).
    • Comprehensive Travel category knowledge (TMC operations, hotel program management, airfare/hotel tec.)
    • Proficiency in Coupa or similar eProcurement systems; strong MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); data/reporting skills.
  • Experience:
    • 5–7 years in multinational environments; At least 3–5 years in purchasing or related areas.
    • Hands-on experience in M&E and/or Travel procurement; Trackable category management and category strategy development experience.
    • Pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience preferred; strong familiarity with pharm industrial practices.

  • Language: Fluent in Chinese and English (written and spoken).
