Electrical vehicles are gaining great traction both from political and customer perspectives and will increasingly become a more crucial product for BMW within China market. They will help enable the company targets for sustainability and the path towards emission free mobility.

To ensure the success of electrified vehicles in China, charging as a mandatory basic function must be ensured. Due to the complexity of China specific charging standards, infrastructure, supply equipment, etc. the implementation and verification of Chinese country versions of vehicles as well charging equipment and charging networks rely on the responsibilities of the associate. A broad understanding of electrical energy transfer, Chinese national standards, and China charging infrastructure is essential. Further newly developed charging functions, equipment, charging networks have to be adapted for China and implemented in accordance with project timelines.

Major Responsibilities

• Closely monitor on the development and deployment of China charging infrastructure and charging products.
• Work on the development chain through benchmarking, conceptualization, specification and verification of BMW driven charging products.
• Support Function Owners in Munich counterpart and BE/SE-teams to develop BMW functions and components, contributing to the achievement of Charging Strategy Number One.
• Define technical requirements for China specific electric vehicle from both component and entire vehicle perspectives, concerning electric energy management and charging procedure. Closely work with Munich counterparts to initialize the conceptualization of new product and project.
• Identify local trends for charging systems incl. local benchmarking and ensure relevant information is communicated to relevant KIFA areas.
• Develop business network with relevant local manufacturers and suppliers, e.g. companies that are active in contributing to charging equipment, network and new technologies, based on which, deliver charging actual status, trend and prognosis.
• Evaluate the feasibility of smart charging, load management, V2X, sequential charging, buffer battery storages (controlled charging) for the Chinese market.
• Contribute to the development of charging value added services e.g. customer APP, plug&charge&go, navigation incl. charging stations, availability and reservation, billing, etc.

Qualifications

• Master of Science, Ph.D., or Engineering degree (master or bachelor, in electrical engineering, system engineering, industrial engineering, automotive engineering or similar), with international study.
• Knowledge of Chinese, Japanese, US and ECE technical standards for charging system."
• Deep knowledge of product definition and verification methods in R&D process, especially in the area of charging equipment e.g. HPC charger, component, function design, charging communication, HV-safety, etc.
• Deep knowledge of electrified vehicles strategy, concept and those of the competition.
• Excellent language skills in English, basic German preferred.
• Valid driver license with at least 5 years’ experience and very good driving capabilities from regular car usage. Ideally B1/B2 BMW internal driving license.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, ever-changing, multi-task environment.
• Capable of working independently and in a team.
• Good negotiating skills for project management and technical issues.
• Readiness for travel.

Experience

• More than 3 years of R&D experience, at least 2 years within the field of charging or E-mobility.
• More than 2 years product management experience.
